Mass Online Advertising
Got a budget? Great, mass advertising on the internet is ‘fast and furious’ because you can reach 500 million (500,000,000) Internet users A DAY… if you have the budget. It’s using avenues like Facebook, Yahoo, MSNBC to advertise and get a lot of eyeballs on what you have to offer.
What that means is in comparison to your traditional mass media such as newspaper, magazines, television commercial, radio advertisement, the numbers that can be generated with the Internet is even BIGGER…
The highest viewership for one of the biggest events of the year, Super Bowl, pulled in 106.5 million viewers on CBS at Super Bowl XLIV. This dethroned the now-previous U.S. TV’s most-watched show record set in Feb. 28, 1983 by the final episode of CBS’ M*A*S*H sitcom, which averaged about 106 million viewers (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/2010-02-08-super-bowl-viewership_N.htm).
You have got to think… If one of the biggest events of the year generated this amount of viewership, what is the reach of your regular TV and radio commercials?
Even if the reach is there, since there is only one or two providers for the “channels”, even if you can reach millions of viewers on TV, is it the best bang for your buck? Let’s listen to what others have to say:
Representative from Ford – Opting Out of Super Bowl TV Commercials & Re-allocates Resources to Online Marketing:
Customers are spending as much time with the mobile smart phone or online as they are watching TV now, so our advertising dollars have to flow to where the people are,” Farley told Reuters in an interview. (http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/11/01/retire-us-ford-marketing-idUSTRE6A05DR20101101)
Representative from Century 21 – Abandoning All TV Advertising & Going Online:
So this year TV went from the company’s biggest spending target, in “multiple millions” of dollars, to zero, he said. “We were first into national TV. Now we’re first to abandon it.” (http://blog.seattlepi.com/realestatenews/2009/05/01/century-21-abandons-tv-takes-another-run-at-seattle/)
And we will leave the conclusions up to you…
What we can say is the opportunities online are enormous and even though the users are not actively seeking for your service or product, because you are getting in front of so many people in a cost effective manner, chances are high that you will appeal to one, one hundred or even thousands of them.
Did we peak your interest even a little? If so, let’s talk.
